"Remembering"

These quilts are about my Grandfather, about remembrance and simplicity.
They were and are about “Joe” and his War Years, a man that sadly I never met, but fortunately he returned home with his memorabilia – a diary.
A rare account of his time spent away from Australia while defending his country.
The original diary is now over 100 year’s old and very fragile.
I hope you enjoy my simple tribute’s to
My Grandfather – Joe.

"Remember When"

It is the memories carried down the years that are so important to us. Memories of stories that we had been told, read about, or passed on by family members. Some events of the war years can be remembered as happy, some sad, all emotional, but important to each of us, as the events helped us be the people we are today.

" Symbols of War"

Symbols play an important part in our lives – The Rising Sun, The Aussie ‘Slouch Hat’, Flanders Poppies and “a Diary”...
A diary is not unique  - however this diary is unique to me because it is my Grandfather “Joe’s” World War 1 Diary.
We can only imagine what these men went through in the trenches and if we were put in these trenches...
I wonder would we be able to do the same?

"Villers-Bretonneux 2013"

This painting addresses the theme “From the Trenches” as it depicts a Young boy placing a Gum Leaf and Poppy on the grave of one of his Mother’s relatives who was killed in World War 1 battle at Villers- Bretonneux in France. It highlights the importance of the young not forgetting the ultimate sacrifices of those that have gone before them to secure their freedom. The young boy was Fraser Peterson who was on a school trip in 2013.

"They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun
and in the morning

We will remember them."
